Descripción del proyectoalem

DOK Leipzig is the largest German and second largest European festival for creative documentary films, animations and interactive works. The previous festival edition gathered around 50.000 visitors. DOK Leipzig is also an important meeting point for the German and international documentary film industry. In addition to the over 300 films screened, the festival offers more than 70 events and parties during the festival week. The forthcoming edition of DOK Leipzig takes place one week beginning of November 2017.

The success of DOK Leipzig is based on creating positive, professional and fun environment for our audience, filmmakers and guests. We work with a lot of different enthusiastic volunteers to create the unique DOK Leipzig atmosphere and to ensure our festival guests and visitors have the best possible festival experience. Our staff and volunteers are our greatest assets, because they are often the first and the last impression of the festival.

Leipzig is located in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony. The city and its 500,000 inhabitants became known throughout the world in the fall of 1989 as the center of the peaceful revolutionary movement in East Germany. It is home to the second oldest university in Germany as well as serving as an important trade fair center. Around 1 million people visit Leipzig every year, enjoying the city’s lively atmosphere and diverse cultural offerings.

The volunteer will stay in a living community with up to six other EVS-volunteers.

The future volunteer will get first an introduction into all areas of the Festival and receive a general insight and overview. In addition, the volunteer will be introduced into the technical processes and digital technology (database). The technical aspect is very important for the EVS as no matter in which area of the festival you work, you will always need to work with digital technology (database). Thus technical and digital interest is important.

As volunteer you will get to know the whole preparation and organisation process of the festival during the EVS and work active in it.

After introduction and orientation the future volunteer can chose him/herself the area in which he/she wants to work according to his/her interest. Possible are 4 task areas:

1) Industry

Each year DOK Leipzig welcomes 1750 international film professionals to share ideas about the current status of the documentary film industry. DOK Industry volunteers help to create co-production catalogue and co-production meeting, plan and organize events, communicate with producers. They work closely with high-profile guests and ensure they have the best possible experience during their visit. The work includes also scanning the accreditations and managing guest lists, assisting in the panel discussions with microphones, as well as taking care of various other organizational tasks, such as helping with the Co-Pro Market.

You should be a service-oriented team player and have a professional attitude.

2) public relations

campaign planning, project management, media planning/print management, contact with / support of journalists, database and website, online redaction, press review

3) programme and guests

support in the regulation of film entries, enter films into database, support of the coordination of the regulation of film entries and programming, preparation of the invitations of international guests, travel organization, communication with embassies and film institutions, accreditation of guests, guest service during the festival week

4) technical management and administration

support of the technical director and the IT coordinator, support of roll-out, event organisation

In addition to that, volunteer will take part in project days / seminar about europe / mobility in europe and present his/her EVS in a school.

Perfil del voluntario

Potential volunteers should next be interested in artistic documentary and animated film movies and should bring enthusiasm for films but also a sense of / fancy for technical work : All festival areas are working with their own special database which is important for the realisation of the festival. Therefore, the future volunteers will expand during their EVS their digital skills. Furthermore, very good knowledge of English and basic knowledge of the German language is important (office languages are German and English, all staff speak English). Age: preferably 20-26; 26-30 is possible.
